Please don't mix bugs on a same page, that's easier to have on bug by
issue. What version of hal package is installed? Could you read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices and get a g-v-m log
and an hal log as described on it? Do you have the ipod listed by fstab
(you should not)?
