[Bug 31144] GNOME fails to start up for new user

This is for a new user, so it will be using the default session.  I
don't know how to change the session to be anything other than the
default, since the user can't run GNOME.

One thing that might be relevant is that the user which does work has
esd disabled.  It could be that the other users are having problems
because esd doesn't work very well.  I don't know how to turn esd off
for the new user, since I usually do it from inside GNOME, and the new
user can't get into GNOME.
