My bug report:

marked as a duplicate of this bug-report.   In any case, my bug has been
solved by the latest linux kernel: 2.6.15-16-amd64-generic, and various
updates.

The batter shows the appropriate status, and the laptop doesn't
improperly go to sleep when the power cord is pulled out.
