That rings a bell, see bug #20237. What does

  id hal

say? If it is not in the groups 'cdrom', 'floppy', and 'plugdev', can you please do

  sudo adduser hal cdrom
  sudo adduser hal floppy
  sudo adduser hal plugdev

to fix it?
