Summary: gdmdynamic call causes gdm to enter unstable state
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
URL: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOnSunRay#head-
5bf5962db9b6f135c04d50d3261c1291c7760e25
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: gdm
AssignedTo: seb128 at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: naamanc at gmail.com
QAContact: desktop-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
When the following command is issued to remove an unwanted display:
/usr/bin/gdmdynamic -b -d $DISPLAY_NUM
the display is not properly removed and when users log out of Gnome, the
gdmgreeter screen fails to appear. It seems that gdm reload itself to display
the gdmgreeter screen.
The issue was encountered when using SunRay Server Software (SRSS) 3.1 on Ubuntu
5.10. SRSS uses the /opt/SUNWut/lib/Xcleanup script to remove displays that
have remained idle for more than 900 seconds. Using subsequent scripts, the
/opt/SUNWut/lib/xmgr/gdm/remove-dpy script is called which executes the above
command. For reference to the error message displayed by the SunRay - the error
number displayed is 26 - see
http://www.filibeto.org/sun/sunray-users/lib/sunsolve/77966.html for more
information.
