I only have a printer tied to the usb port.  After a reboot I get the following:
$ sudo rmmod ehci_hcd
Password:
user at c-24-6-199-42:~$

So no, it doesn't hang...

I then connected the ipod to see what would happen. viola!   it now recognizes
it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the heck is going on????


This is very good news, but I don't understand it.
