[Bug 52084] GDM logout or restart gives me a blank screen

Public bug reported:

When I log out using the GDM shutdown menu, GDM logs out but never comes to the login screen, all I see is a terminal login for a split second and then just a blank screen.
Same thing if GDM freezes (like it does a lot with my codeblocks build) and I press ctrl-alt-backspace, I see the same behaviour.
I didn't have this problem when I first installed Ubuntu. but I got it a few days later. I've tried formatting and reinstalling Ubuntu, but I still get the same error after a few days.
I use the GDM version that is in the respositories, same thing with graphics drivers (fglrx on a ATI Radeon 9600XT). Could that be the problem?
