[Bug 53016] Long deadlock after loading drivers

Public bug reported:

Every time I connect my Canon Powershot Pro 1 it tilts just in the end
of loading drivers (a couple of pixels of blank left in the meter) for a
couple of minutes, after which it finally starts browsing the images for
thumbnails.
