[Bug 48644] GDM restarts when inputing password

That's a bit weird.

I'm doing technical support for a guy who has been using Ubuntu for a
while.

Last time I took his PC for maintenance I found there was no way of
login through gdm. I input the username with no problemes but, when
entering the password, after one keypress (whatever key your password
starts with) gdm restarts (well, actually X restarts) and I find myself
once again with the username input.

Checked restarting gdm and reinstalling it to no result. Only way to get
gnome X desktop is by killing gdm then login' via text terminal and then
starting x and gnome (startx & gnome-wm &). Worked a few hours with it
and found no problem except for a weird firefox that stopped working
(installed 1.5 and that solved the firefox issue).

User has rights to update it's machine (he's the boss) so I don't know
if he did something he shouldn't. Anyway I can't find anything relevant
on /var/log/gdm (there's no errors, just a few WW about fonts) nor on
/var/log/syslog.

Am I missing something?
