this is still happening with:

avilella at magneto:~$ dpkg -l gdm

ii  gdm            2.14.9-0ubuntu GNOME Display Manager

It won't recognize any of the passwords for the usernames in the
computer. I even created a new user, then tried to get gdm to login: it
won't recognize the password...

Does anybody know how can I re-setup this gdm/gnome thing?
