It works now. Nautilus certainly does recognise my Internet connection.
You can close the bug.

I think it was more of a user-interface issue. I remember trying to
access some FTP sites, and Nautilus would not play along. These FTP
sites are always available and well-known in South Africa (e.g.
ftp.is.co.za). Anyway...
