Thanks; your camera is an 'USB mass storage' one, i. e. it acts like an
USB hard drive. According to the hal log, it was successfully mounted to
/media/usbdisk. Can you access the pictures there with the file manager?

Can you please give me the output of

  sh -x /usr/bin/gnome-volume-manager-gthumb
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_EEB8_D814

to help me to find out why the photo import with gthumb doesn't work?
