[Bug 34655] No Gnome panels on startup in Dapper Drake Flight 5

Description:
After staring up the Dapper Drake Live CD Flight 5, the Gnome panels
disappear.  When the system starts up I can see the gnome panels for a
minute with a pure brown background then the screen goes blank for a
minute (or less) and reappears with the default desktop but no gnome
panels on the top or bottom of the screen.
