Er, sorry. not sure how I missed the last comment. Was in Hoary. I think
it's actually when I left it over the weekend, and my nfs-mounted home
dir goes away due to kerberos ticket expiry.

Could probably be reproduced by NFS mounting homedir, and then breaking
the network link between server and client
