Could you please post a screenshot showing "No printer detected" under
Use a detected printer (Use Alt+PrintScreen).

Is Brother HL-1050 USB #1 displayed in the Printer Port dropdown?

You could try to add your printer using CUPS webinterface instead of
gnome-cups-manager, to do this type http://localhost:631 in firefox.
Does this work?
