Does your sftp / has a lot of stuff to list that could explain that? For you long fo you get the CPU usage going up? Could you get a gdb backtrace with nautilus-dbg and libgnomevfs2-0-dg when that happen?
- gnome-session-remove nautilus
- gdb nautilus
(gdb) run
... CPU used, press <Ctrl-C>
(gdb) thread apply all bt
