Yeah, I was puzzled a bit too, when nautilus 'wrote' to my DVD ;]

However this is a minor bug, since it doesnt affect functionality. Maybe a simplest workaround would be a neutral message like "writing data and/or ejecting media" of something like that.
Generally I would prefer solution 2) to 1)
