I just tried to reproduce this: I did

  dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda1

i. e. I cleaned the first partition of my USB stick entirely. Now I do not get anything for /dev/sda1.

Can you please do 'lshal > lshal.txt' and attach lshal.txt here?
