Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36855
Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
The problem is mainly in the fact that only one entry field is visible.
I've seen about a dozen people now enter their username, press enter
(which some of them had to be told to do) and then expect something to
happen ("And now, why doesn't anything happen?"). It should be
considered to change the login screen to have two text entry fields and
-please-, a "Login" button or something like that. Even better might be
a face browser (I know, this would make it look a bit like Windows XP,
but it does make sense for many home desktops) with the option of not
having to enter a password at all (maybe have a dialog in the form of
"would you like to login without your password from now on". For users
who are administrators, an easy way of saying "log me in automatically"
might be considered as well (apart from the GDM configuration under
System > System Administration in the panel).
