I fixed the problem locally in the way that I explicitely set a foreground color now too.

I guess that is not very friendly for people who require the white-on-black theme (also I noticed that a lot of websites use this setting too apparently). 

So a better fix is probably to re-use the fg/bg of the theme (if that is possible without getting gray bg).
