i doubt that it *hurts* but i'm not sure how it on systems where no GL visual is available at all (i'm not sure if X has sane fallback mechanisms for that if you force a visual)
i also have the big problem that i cant reproduce it on *any* of my machines over here which makes testing while coding a bit hard.
