I tried that with playing, and I can reproduce the error.

Steps to reproduce: 

1. Insert a cd
2. Medium -> play
3. Medium -> next track, or ctrl-n

Result: 
stops at 0:01, drive spins down after ~10 sec instead of playing the song

If you press ctrl-p or select play from the menu at this point, the "play/pause" button is toggled to "play" (there is pause on there), if you do it again, it is toggled to "pause" (there is play on the button) and the song plays.
