Sorry, it's late here. The problem is in libgtk2.0-0, not gnome-vfs2.

Remote resources get accessed in quite a few places on this codepath, unfortunately. I'll attach initial attempts at avoiding the first two accesses. The third one is more problematic - it's a call to test_if_path_is_visible() in gtk/gtkfilechooserbutton.c - and it tests whether the path is a folder or not. I guess the only way around this is to assume that all remote bookmarks are folders...?
