right, that's a different issue. Get a backtrace with rhythmbox-dbg installled:
- gdb rhythmbox
(gdb) run
.... open preferences and get the hang..
... <Ctrl-C> on the gdb command line
(gdb) thread apply all bt

and copy that to the bug you open
