Public bug reported:
Affects: file-roller (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
Currently running Archive Manager (Gnome, dapper - current as of May
10th)
Used to run the archive manager from the 5.10 Ubuntu release cycle.
Under 5.10 I had a variety of archives, including numerous tar, zip and
rar files, often renamed as .cbt, .cbz & .cbr respectively. This is a
comic book naming convention quite common across the internet.
Under Gnome, I was able to right click on any of these files (renamed or
not) and (in the case of rar files, with the right codecs) I was able to
extract them to the current directory, no questions asked.
Now, using the current dapper pre-releases and the new version of Gnome,
it screws up the extracting of .tar files (giving an empty folder) and
refuses to even recognize the renamed versions of tar, zip or rar files
(cbt, cbz, cbr).
The only caveat I have is that I have installed Comix, which registers
the .cbt, .cbz & .cbr mimetypes for itself, as it gives a preview of the
first image in the series in Nautilus. This may affect the secondary
problem, but the primary issue with tar files is still outstanding.
Note also that .tar files work if I open the full Archive manager
program and then extract. Note again that even from within the Archive
manager program it will not even recognize that .cbt, .cbz or .cbr files
are archives.
Thank you so much for your time.
