What appears to be suspicious is that rb is using /dev/dsp, which is
ALSA's OSS emulation device. By default Dapper uses ALSA (not OSS or
even its emulation).

What is the output from ``asoundconf list'' in a Terminal?

What is the Default Output Plugin set to in the Audio tab when
``gstreamer-properties'' is invoked from a Terminal?
