Hi Daniel. I am re-opening this bug because I do not believe that it is
a dupe.

I had the problem that is discussed in Bug #3517 and, as that report
says, it was fixed. The issue in that bug was that, even when the login
and logout sounds were set to no sound, they still played. The login and
logout sounds referred to are the ones that are in Gnome Sound
Properties already, it is just that changing them made no difference.
This bug is not the same as that.

There are two "login" sounds, which may have caused the confusion:
- When I start the machine, I get a drumroll noise when I get to the username/password screen. This is not mentioned anywhere in the Gnome Sound Properties and occurs before one gets to the issue in Bug #3517.
- When one enters their username and password they get the "Vooom-ooom-oooom" noise that is referred to as the "login" sound in Bug #3517.

** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu)
       Status: Rejected => Unconfirmed

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 3517
   Login sound cannot be turned off
