Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

I think most people (or at least significant number of people) expect
chat/IM programs to log all conversations.
Xchat in Ubuntu does not do it, does not inform about not doing it,
and does not seem to provide an option to start doing it.

I think it's very important to turn the logging on by default.

When the logging is turned off and the user expected it to be on,
the likely result is loss of valuable information.

In a less common situation where someone would rather not have the logs, it's possible to turn logging off and delete the logs sometime later,
so nothing is essentially lost.

Xchat is able to log everything, so the problem should be easy to fix.

If the logging cannot be turned on by default for some reason,
there should at least be a big popup informing about it the first time
Xchat is started.

** Affects: xchat-gnome (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed
