That specific change (bug #31433) only affects arrowless notifications.
The get_work_area function is only called by
_remove_bubble_from_poptart_stack and
_notify_daemon_add_bubble_to_poptart_stack in src/daemon.c.

I skimmed through the patch, and didn't see anything that could cause
this. The bug is likely somewhere else in the code.
