Public bug reported:
Here's a wish and a half...
Instead of the current mess that is having GDM on the same virtual
terminal as subsequent logins, GDM should have its own virtual terminal
(e.g. tty6) and then start users on tty7, tty8 and so on. When the user
logs out, they go back to tty6, and the same for switching users.
I realise that there would be a performance hit from having GDM always
open in its own virtual terminal, so I would imagine something like
starting it on boot and stopping it when a user logs in, and then
restarting it on logout/switch user.
GDM's face browser could include a facility to indicate which users are
already logged in as well.
I know what your thinking, this sounds a lot like the Windows
login/switching system, but that's because it's one area where Windows
gets it mostly right and the GDM/X combination is an ugly hack :)
** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
