[Bug 70520] "Open with" behaviour by file type does not work as expected with zip archives renamed, such as rosegarden or xournal files

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I use edgy. If I try to associate xournal to .xoj files, by right
clicking on an xoj file, and then selecting "properties" and "open
with", I can associate xournal to "zipped archives" (I am using italian
locale so forgive me some english translation fuzzyness). The problem is
that .xoj files are zip archives renamed, like openoffice files. Now I
want to associate rosegarden to .rg files, that also are zip archives
renamed, and this means unassociate xournal. I need the option to set
files by extension, and also I claim that not giving this as a visible
option affects usability of the file manager, since users will not
understand why the system insists on talking about archives, when I am
providing xournal or rosegarden files. Also, this causes confusion,
since openoffice files are correctly managed by extension, and I would
like to be able to replicate the same behavior for xournal files.

Am I wrong, or is there no way to configure mimetypes in nautilus
(something like a searchable list or tree of mimetypes and their
matching conditions)?

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
