This seems fixed when I upgraded to Feisty's totem. Well, at least mostly. It automatically resizes when opening a movie, and the '0' and '1' keyboard shortcuts work, but '2' seems to still not work. -- Totem doesn't auto-resize https://launchpad.net/bugs/62723
