Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer
Trying to play any media file, I am getting the error message "Cannot open resource for writing".
In the console I see:
ALSA lib confmisc.c:670:(snd_func_card_driver) cannot find card 'Snapper'
ALSA lib conf.c:3479:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:391:(snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:3479:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:1070:(snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:3479:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such device
ALSA lib conf.c:3947:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such device
ALSA lib pcm.c:2146:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
At the same time, gmplayer plays files ok. lsof /dev/dsp returns
nothing.
The sound card is Power G5's internal sound. There is also Plantronics
USB headset attached.
In the "Sound preferences", "Default sound card" is set to
"SoundByLayout" (???) - since it the only choice different from
"Plantronics headset".
Trying to test "Music and movies" "Sound playback" combobox, I see that
it only works with "OSS" value, but with "ALSA" I am getting the same
error: "Could not open resource for writing"
** Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Unconfirmed
