I tried building gnome-vfs 2.16.3 from feisty and the problem still existed - on the other hand, building 2.14.1 from dapper fixed things. I hope this is fixed soon, this is a pretty unbelievable regression... -- [edgy] gstreamer, rhythmbox won't read files over smb https://launchpad.net/bugs/60326
