[Bug 69541] gedit fails to launch when invoked with file argument on command-line

Public bug reported:

If I run gedit on the console so I can see error messages, I see the
following when I try to open any existing text file:

** (gedit:5981): WARNING **: Could not load spinner rest icon
*** glibc detected *** gedit: double free or corruption (out): 0x0836cec0 ***

Therafter gedit just hangs, doing nothing, with the file unopened.

This happens whether gedit is invoked with the file on the command line,
or when File|Open is used, or when the file is dragged&dropped over the
gedit window.

This is with version 2.16.1-0ubuntu2

- When I run "gedit <filename>", it fails to ever map any window
- (allthough a gedit process does exist until killed). Doing so on a shell
- shows the following error message:
