I assume this was using firefox 1.5 , which is using 96 dpi by default ?
In this case, you need to either tell firefox to use 120 dpi, or tell it to use system defaults.

The behavior has changed with firefox 2.0b1 which uses a minimum dpi of 96 by default.
So if you set gnome dpi to 120, firefox will also use that, and you should get the same font size.
