Sebastian, here is the result of the two commands:
=============================
$ grep "png document" ~/.local -r

/home/ajlewis2/.local/share/mime/packages/Override.xml:<mime-type
type="application/x-extension-jpg"><comment>jpg document</comment><glob
pattern="*.jpg"/></mime-type><mime-type
type="application/x-extension-png"><comment>png document</comment><glob
pattern="*.png"/></mime-type><mime-type
type="application/x-extension-ogg"><comment>ogg document</comment><glob
pattern="*.ogg"/></mime-type><mime-type
type="application/x-extension-wav"><comment>wav document</comment><glob
pattern="*.wav"/></mime-type></mime-info>
/home/ajlewis2/.local/share/mime/application/x-extension-png.xml:
<comment>png document</comment>
=================================
$ grep "png document" /usr/share/mime -r
$

No output on the second command.
