Hi Simon,
I'm running edgy, I'll attach the files you've asked for and run gears if it recurs and let you know. As far as I'm aware this xorg.conf.backup is the one with the problem, though it stopped working after the problem, hence the reinstall of the nVidia drivers (which I'm starting to think are the problem).
