ok so I guess all I said is either wrong or not understandable, which in both case is a waste of time. I will still have a last try :
I believe it works fine when you increase Xft dpi (like setting it to 120), but not when you decrease it (eg 85).
If you _really_ want firefox to work at smaller dpi than 96, you need to set layout.css.dpi to 0.
