[Bug 82501] nautilus hangs with "Searching for appropriate applications

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Click on a .gnumeric file on the desktop, add/remove programs opens,
finds Gnumeric, opens "Searching for appropriate programs" and hangs.

Kill with xkill

Repeat, select Gnumeric, download starts but stalls

Restart apt-proxy

apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, apt-get install gnumeric all proceed
normally

May be failure to start apt-proxy (but I have been using it without
manual restart for days).

Nautilus should time out with an appropriate error message
