What are the exact steps which you use for setting up the printer with
gnome-cups-manager?

What do you get as result on (do "sudo apt-get install nmap" if nmap is
not installed on your machine):

sudo nmap <IP address of the print server>

What is the output of "lpinfo -v"?

Are you able to set up your printer with the web interface of CUPS
(http://localhost:631/)?
