Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager
It was suggested to file a seperate bug report instead of posting in a
duplicate, my bug seems very similar to bug #52017 in it's description
though.
The problem was that by using: System -> Administration -> Printing menu
to go in and change the printer properties, in this case default print
type from normal to normal grayscale would have no effect in the
printer's ppd file or anywhere else for that matter... resulting in the
printer always printing in color. By manually changing the
"*DefaultPrintoutMode" from "Normal" to "Normal.Gray" we were able to
create a workaround.
To duplicate:
1) Add a HP Deskjet 940C printer by going through System > Administration > Printing
2) Observe the file in /etc/cups/ppd/DeskJet-940C.ppd and take note of a setting such as *DefaultPrintoutMode: Normal
3) Right click on the printer and change the printout mode to Normal Grayscale
4) Observe the file again, *DefaultPrintoutMode will still be Normal
Expected Result:
*DefaultPrintoutMode: Normal.Gray
Actual Result:
*DefaultPrintoutMode: Normal
Manually editing the file with the change will fix the problem. Without changing the file manually printed documents will remain in color.
** Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Unconfirmed
