[Bug 95017] missing alternatives entry

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

the gdm package in feisty version 2.18.0-0ubuntu2 fails to install its
line into

/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/gdm-config-derivative

as a result after installing edubuntu and xubuntu on the same machine
the original gdm profile cannot be easily recovered using update-alternatives.
