[Bug 96136] gnome-volume-control keeps turning off microphone playback

I am using a set of C-Media headphones to listen to sound, and would
like to hear the sound entering the microphone echoed through the
speakers. This can be accomplished by unmuting the Microphone output
slider in gnome-volume-control.

However, with Automatic Gain Control turned on this has a tendency to
turn itself off again, which is most annoying. With AGC turned off I
cannot hear the sound entering the microphone even when Microphone is
unmuted.
