[Bug 96572] Easy codec installation works only for totem with gstreamer backend

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When using totem with gstreamer backend the codec discovery works and the codec installation menu appears. This does not happen when using totem with the xine backend.
There is also no automatic installation of codecs with other applications (in Ubuntu)
