Screen resolution, where is the vidlist?

Hello,

once again

I tried to adapt lts.conf for higher resolution of my mga and cirrus
graphic cards, but the edubuntu-screen was ever limited to
800x600.(perhaps simple vesa?)

I had gone different ways

First way: X_VIDEORAM
The entry X_VIDEORAM in lts.conf for my two 2 MB cards has no effects,
	XSERVER            = mga
	X_MODE_0 = 1024x768
 	X_VIDEORAM = 2048

Second way: Full ubuntu version
It took a long time......
I installed a comlete ubuntu-version on the harddisk of my "client with
a 2 MB online MGA card to see if the fault is on the Debian side or on
the ltsp side.

The abilities of the video card weren´t recognized
The highest screen resolution was 800x600 at 60 Hz!
Why?

Third way: Ltsp-client
Perhaps I`m wrong,
(I have only small experience to interprete linux scripts)
but I tried to follow the bootprocess/ltsp-client-build-up
so I found the file "startx" in /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/lib/ltsp

I think it is bound in the boot- and build-up process, isn`it?

There is a chapter which describes what to do with setting up the
XF86Config file. If the entry "auto" is found ...
------------------------------------------------------------------------
 if [ "${XSERVER}" = "auto" ]; then
        echo "Scanning for video card"
        XSERVER=`/sbin/pci_scan /etc/vidlist`
        if [ -z "${XSERVER}" ]; then
            echo
            echo " WARNING: Auto probe of the video card failed !"
            echo " You should specify the proper X server in
lts.conf"
            echo " Proceeding with the SLOW vesa server"
            echo
            sleep 5s
            XSERVER=vesa
        fi
    fi
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not able to find a file named "vidlist" in /etc or anywhere else,
also there is no command like pci_scan

At last I wonder about that nobody else is complaining about missing
support of older graphic cards or about a too low screen resolution. In
the mailinglist the main discussion is about the Edubuntu GUI and full
of emotions. Do they all work with Edubuntu workstations instead of
Edubuntu-Terminalservers?

I wish that we have in mind that a terminalserver has to work with older
pcs to save costs and to conserve natural resources. So I was used with
my old terminalserversystem.

I spent a lot of time to "master" the missing things in Edubuntu, but I
don`t think that the missing support of my older thinclients forced me
possibly to change to another ltsp-System
