Hi all,
As you know Free Edubuntu CDs (as with Kubuntu) will not be available
via shipit, as this is simply too expensive.
But the good news is that our sabdfl has agreed that we get a run of
8,000 Limited edition Edubuntu 5.10 CD's.
The idea is to:
* Get the CD pressed, printed and packaged as cost effectively as
possible.
* We are looking at a single CD (Edubuntu x386 install CD) - we
have no LiveCD and can't cater for other architectures at this
point - sorry!
* The CD label should be a simple 2 colour design - background and
contrasting text
* The CD cover can be a simple slip cover (2 square pieces of
cardboard stuck together on 3 seems, open at the top)
* The supplier must packages these in boxes of 100 so that we can
distribute them in this way.
(I have a quote to get Ubuntu CDs manufactured in SA, and am awaiting
updated quote for our minimised requirements now, so far it looks like
about R5.50 per CD (0,70EURO). Let me know if you can compete with this)
* Distribute CDs to our main Edubuntu Community Advocates/Evangelists
around the world,
* For them to distribute through events and various other channels
in their respective communities.
* They will be able to represent Edubuntu in these communities and
provide a support hub.
* So far we have interest from community members in Chile, Brazil,
Angola, France, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Germany,
USA, Philipines,Australia, UK, Italy and South Africa.
This is on condition that as a community we:
* Create the required CD artwork. mhz has already volunteered to
head up this effort. We are curently awaiting the Ubuntu 5.10
artwork as a starting ppoint for this.
* Ship no more than 300 to any given country.
* Document the shipping plan.
* Document the distribution plans (per shipment) ***
*** All plans to be listed on EdubuntuShippingPlans [1] for management
review. i.e. this page must state that we plan to for e.g.ship 200 CD's
to Germany (and to whom), and beneath that, where that team plans to
distribute those 200 CD's. And then on the same page, the plans for
Nigeria. So on a single page we can see how those 8,000 CD's will be
used. (Please list alphabetically per country for easier review).
Please note that this funding has been given to us as it is believed it
is a worth while investment to grow and further Edubuntu. We need to
maximise this opportunity and get good results with it. Further funding
and support depends on it. Let's make it awesome!
