My guess is that your CD drive cannot handle the CD-RW disks or the disk
may be too large. I've ran across this problem a few times myself.
Try CD-R.

Sometimes the older machines cannot boot the CD and then it's time
for the good old floppy and Smart Boot Manager from
http://btmgr.webframe.org/

Good luck,

Hi list!

This is my first post.

I have Ubuntu 5.1 running on a partition on my Titanium G4 Laptop.

The system is great! Congratulations to you guys who developed the
system.

Problem:

I have to use Ubuntu to connect to the brazilian bank: "Banco do
Brasil".

Banco do Brasil's programmers developed routines that require me to
use either Internet Explorer or Netscape browser to run their Java
Applet.

I see at Sun's Java dowload web site that there is no ppc version for
Java Runtime Plugin, also Netscape's ppc version seems not to be
available.

Can you guys help me?

Thank you for any help.

I there is an extension for Mozilla Firefox called user agent switcher
available
At http://chrispederick.com/work/useragentswitcher/. It will spoof the user
agent
To look like IE, Netscape or just about anything else you want it to fairly
easily.
I use it regularly on my linux boxes to get around the browser requirements.

i believe the original poster was being stymied by a Java Applet on a
powerpc platform, which usually means that switching user agents won't
do the trick.

Unfortunately, the most widely-used Java Virtual Machine (the JVM is

and has not been released on the powerpc platform.

However, there are other PPC-based JVMs available. The ubuntu wiki

Hi folks,

Thanks for helping me.

It seems that Daniel's tip is a good try.

I got the tgz files from IBM's servers.

But I am stuck in installing the "make-jpkg" tool.

It seems that my system "doesn't known" where to get it, and I have a
connection error when getting a repository list from "http://
br.archive.ubuntu.com".

I have already run "apt-get update" and get similar results from
"synaptic" GUI tool.

I guess I could tell my system to get it somewhere else, but how?

Any further help will be very welcome.

Problem:

I have to use Ubuntu to connect to the brazilian bank: "Banco do Brasil".

Banco do Brasil's programmers developed routines that require me to use
either Internet Explorer or Netscape browser to run their Java Applet.

I see at Sun's Java dowload web site that there is no ppc version for Java
Runtime Plugin, also Netscape's ppc version seems not to be available.

Can you guys help me?

Thank you for any help.

i believe the original poster was being stymied by a Java Applet on a
powerpc platform, which usually means that switching user agents won't
do the trick.

Unfortunately, the most widely-used Java Virtual Machine (the JVM is
the piece of software that runs Java applets) is not free software,
and has not been released on the powerpc platform.

However, there are other PPC-based JVMs available. The ubuntu wiki
has some suggestions for PPC java:

Any further help will be very welcome.

thats definately a typo, remove the space between univers and e in
your /etc/apt/sources.list file.

thats definately a typo, remove the space between univers and e in
your /etc/apt/sources.list file.
