DVD installation question

First time attempt at using Edubuntu for a single workstation...

I've downloaded the gutsy DVD and found that when I run the workstation install it downloads considerable packages from the internet instead of just using the DVD. Given it's a 5+GB DVD, requiring a dual layer disc and leaving lots of space on it, I find this suprising and annoying since it takes a long time. Any ideas why this might be? I was quite surprised to find I couldn't get the install to work without a functioning network connection.
