Without appearing to second guess you, can you tell us what devices? 

If you need to add hardware for which there are no drivers already in
Ubuntu, you usually need to install the linux-headers-generic packagea gcc,
make and possibly binutils, libc-dev and perhaps kernel-package.  You then
generally download the source, extract it and follow the instructions.

Sorry to be vague, but it varies a bit depending on the driver.
